Back in the Saddle Again

Yesterday, I found sitters for both boys (thanks to Grandma and Aunt Katie) and I went out "job hunting". Yes, it has come to that. We are now in a position where, financially, we can't get by on just one income anymore while we are waiting to see what will come of this whole house sale/escrow ordeal. Because of an on -the-job injury Paul incurred a while back, his job situation has changed a little and he is now on Work Man's Comp. (which is a slightly reduced pay). On top of that, our Adjustable Rate Mortgage (ARM, I'm sure you've been hearing a lot about those lately!) just adjusted and is more than we can afford. Add to that car payments, attorney's fees, etc., and I'm sure you get the picture. Some of you may have gotten the "bulk" email that I sent out about it on Sunday evening. If you didn't, it was only because I don't have your email address ... I was simply asking for any HELP anyone might have to offer. A job lead, a reference, anything!

I have been a "stay home mom" for just about two years now. Before that, I worked as a pre-kindergarten teacher at Light and Life Christian School for just under seven years. So, I have a great deal of experience in that field, and might consider doing something like that again if the hours and pay were right. However, I would really love to find something clerical. I genuinely enjoy organizational tasks, working on the computer, and with people. I love children, too, but feel like, if I want to have anything left for my own kids when I get home at the end of the day, it might be better if I go the clerical route.

Ideally, the perfect job would pay about $12 -$14 hourly, part-time, with hours between 7 am - 3 pm M-F. Now, I realize that those are pretty specific requirements, but again, it is just my ideal. I know that I may have to bend on one or all of them.

I applied at 4 different places yesterday, and was able to actually introduce myself and speak with a supervisor at 3 of them. I began my search at Calvin Christian pre-school at my friend, Kristen's, recommendation. The director there said that they were looking for substitute teachers as some of their staff will be vacationing soon. I told her that I needed something a little more consistent, but that I would pray about it and get back with her if I was unable to find anything else. Then, I filled out an application and handed in my resume at the Elizabeth Hospice (where my mom worked before she moved). After that, I headed over to Palomar Medical Center's Diet Office, at my friend, Sarah's, recommendation, and was able to speak with a supervisor there and hand in my resume. I finished off the day by completing a VERY in depth, online application for Nordstrom department store, and I plan on following up with them in person this afternoon, when Paul gets home from work. I feel qualified and good about the time I had at all 4 places. So, we'll see if anything comes from any of them.

When the day was over, I picked Tristan up first, and then headed out to Poway to get Silas. I have to be honest, I am not looking forward to being away from them like that on a regular basis! Please pray for me. I know that there are positives about going back to work. For one, a little adult interaction will be nice. However, I LOVE my boys, and am feeling some anxiety about sacrificing my time with them :-(

I know that God has us under His all-knowing, ever-loving, all-powerful wing, and I do find great comfort in that!

Love you Bre and praying for you. You know you might want to check out roofing contracting companies. There are so many in Escondido and they are always looking for clerical work. I did that when I had to work while pregnant with Caleb and it paid well and I was off my feet! You may want to cal pete and Jennifer Sara also...they may have some leads as they are building contractors (elder family in our church). I will pray for you and your family that there will be good adjustment and rest in the midst of it all. Feel free to drop the kiddos off if you need it!
